My Story

For more than two decades, I have dedicated my career to improving education by connecting research, data, and policy with the real-world needs of schools, districts, and communities.

I began my professional journey as an educator, teaching in public, private, and charter schools, and bringing learning to life in settings as varied as traditional classrooms and theater programs for the children of migrant farm workers. I went on to earn a Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction and later a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Research & Policy, deepening my expertise in how schools can align vision, strategy, and evidence to support student success.

For nearly a decade, I served as Director of Assessment and Evaluation for one of the largest school districts in Colorado. In that role, I oversaw the full spectrum of assessment administration, data reporting, and professional development for more than 60 schools, 3,000 staff, and 32,000 students. I led large-scale software implementations from RFP to multi-year rollout, trained nearly 1,000 educators annually, and developed custom, psychometrically sound assessments in partnership with teachers and leaders.

My work took me beyond the district level when I joined the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) as a Program Manager for the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) program. In this federal role, I managed and reviewed multi-million-dollar education research contracts spanning 14 states and two U.S. territories. I advised on study design for both quasi-experimental and randomized controlled trials, provided peer review on technical reports, and ensured that research met the highest standards of rigor while remaining useful to state and local decision-makers.

Over the years, I’ve served on the Colorado Department of Education’s Educational Data Advisory Committee, consulted on early literacy policy, and collaborated with leading researchers on adapting the IES Program Evaluation Toolkit to help underperforming schools develop actionable, state-compliant improvement plans. My career has consistently blended high-level policy understanding with practical, ground-level implementation experience.

In 2025, after federal education research programs I supported were defunded, I recognized an opportunity—and a calling—to bring my expertise directly to those who could benefit most from it. I founded NovaEventus ECM – Educational Consulting & Metrics to provide research, evaluation, and strategic consulting services that help education leaders make data-driven decisions, design effective programs, and measure what matters most for students.

NovaEventus ECM stands for new outcomes—a belief that with the right evidence, strategy, and persistence, schools and districts can achieve sustainable, positive change. My mission is simple: partner with educators, policymakers, and organizations to turn research into results.
